Shot in a dark, but I would actually bet on it being just fine. The Marine weld says it is for extreme conditions, temperature wise definitely withing our range, chemical and mechanical resistance, weather and such. I am 100% worry free. The one thing doing it again, I'd apply less of it. I thought it would be more tacky, but it spread like butter after applying. It is strong, no need for over kill. With the cover, the window is perfect clear. It will look good when on the bike with all the holes filled!

That looks good, Stan, and I like the chromed cover very much. Have you bought a new decal for it? No doubt you'll be needing a full set, since you are painting the frame etc..

Thank you! Yes, it looks crisp when chromed. I saw it on other bikes and I liked it. I'm leaving the decals for much later, as the last thing and just optional.

Not sure what's the deal with these paints but the VHT flameproof header paint it a total bust. Got the block super clean and roughed it up with sand paper. The paint just doesn't stick and feels like powder. I can't stress how easily is it to scratch it with a fingernail. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. Shouldn't paint stick to a clean surface? I could use any cheap BS spray paint and it would be solid. They mention 'curing' in heat, but a machine shop said they never do. So what's the deal??? I am leaning towards having it all silver. At least any scratch would not show. If you need heat curing this paint, and they mention several times at different temperatures, then this is not paint but powder coating! I feel extremely disappointed.

Stan, re VHT engine paint: a little over 2 years ago I restored my CBX and finished the engine in Satin Black PJ1 Fast Black engine paint (500f): it went on without any primer or undercoat and finished nice and smooth and looked better than I expected. Two years later it still looks virtually unmarked.



I had heard some negative comments re PJ1, but I was well impressed with it: Can recommend if you are struggling to find anything.

That is a beauty, Tonto! I guess that is a CBX-C - one of the last ones, being as it is white.

Sorry to read about your set-back, Stan.

Maybe the flame proof VHT does need curing after all.

There has been so much debate about engine paints. I recall member strate6 always swore by Smoothrite.
I think - when I get round to painting my engine - I shall choose 2K, for its reputed durability.
