Continuing on the painting subject, here is the color of the body I am after. I am borrowing these two photos from the internet to show and tell - I hope the owner doesn't mind.
This the the color I am after. Either very dark charcoal or black. Perhaps with a tint of very deep blue? Not sure yet. But I'd like to have the stripes gold or a mix of gold and silver - one wider the other one thinner.
Thank you Kawboy for a few leads on the other thread.
I'm trying to put together a work-flow list. I 'm a little uncertain yet when should I paint those stripes.
I want be using any ready available striping kits, I don't think they are any available like these ones above. I've only seen them in gold and red.
I think the first will be to fill and smooth the little dent on my tank, then prime with a couple layers of primer. Then sand so make things smooth, then prime again.
Then.... I don't know yet!

Painting- As far as primer, I would first select the paint system you want to use and then go with their primer.
Primer first then basecoat, then interclear coat, then stripe, then final clear coats. Cut and Buff, then complete. The difference between a really good paint job and a great paint job -Cut and Buff. Cutting it will flatten out the orange peel and the buffing brings back the lustre. It's the flatness in the paint that make the reflevctive difference and that's the "great" part in the paint job.

Stan, not sure which decal site you found on eBay, but I got a gold set for my A1 from this supplier:
www.classicreproductiondecalsandparts.com/gallery/
The guy who runs it (Andy) has a spraying business: he's resprayed my VMax and Z13.
Cheers Tim

Following discussion on the green KZ thread, I decided not to sand blast the gas tank but use an aircraft paint stripper instead for safety. So, I will have more time to plan things ahead.
This is the the eBay listing with the decals:
Kawasaki Z1300 A1, KZ1300 A1decal set
The one thing that just hit me reading another thread, that not all tanks are the same! Mine looks kind of smaller and less square, so perhaps if A1 had a bigger tank, these would not fit the tank I have? I will post of what I have later. I'd love to do the striping by masking and spraying, or even better by hand. But I've been out of practice for years now, so a ready to apply set would be a good alternative.
Your paint job looks superb!! You know it, you've heard it before, haha
