but the deep pan will block a good bit of air so you would get less cooling benefit.

The point and benefit here is that the adapter and filter are still fully exposed to the air. The difference in cooling between the shallow and deep pan, is moot.
But a fair comment, non the less.

Yeah, we could start splitting hairs, although I'd lean towards a better cooling overall with the deep sump. Just to make the point, the old pan is pretty much flat with some small cooling fins - air would just 'fly by'. The external adapter definitely adds extra cooling surface.
The deep one - aerodynamic shape, for no better word, would guide the air around nicely plus as is, even without the fins,. It offers much greater heat exchange surface. Perhaps that's why they didn't add any fins?
Looking at both, the external adapter wouldn't be blocked by much. My wild guess is it would have perhaps 90% of the direct air flow exposure comparing to the shallow one. With the air turbulences around the shape of the pan, I'd say no disadvantage. Perhaps, in it's original form, the deep sump actually offer better cooling. Adapter added - even more! But it's moot, as you said.

That's beyond what I was saying though. I simply pointed out to the physical distance of the adapter comparing them both. I'd bet that if measured, the ground clearance would be lesser by perhaps a couple inches or more if you mount it on a deep sump. That's all!

Lets go with this; If you have a shallow sump and a DG or similar header - I guarantee this adapter will fit and work.

And, I still advocate wrapping the header collector. Assuming you have a header. Stock exhaust ?
Doesn't take much imagination to consider the unbelievable heat "'cooking" the pan (oil) regardless of exhaust. I can touch the wrapped collector without burning. Do so otherwise and you'll leave 3 layers of skin!
Keeping mind: I wasn't planning on selling this - I none-the-less wanted to determine the effectiveness. I measured air-temp with a high-quality thermometer, a PSI gauge and an oil temp. gauge. The gauges were checked against known accurate instruments and determined to be true.
The WIX sticker is a simple reminder that there is currently no oil in the engine.
The left small gauge is for fork air pressure to answer a possible question.
The air temp gauge was initially designed to be temporary using a thumb-nut to secure and easily remove it. it's been interesting enough to monitor the air temp that I have left it installed.

Scotch, you've edited the post so much I need to read it again and look at the picks again to get the gist of it. No pun intended.
Knowing you hate academics, why not just make a simple cross list of what it fits and a shorthand of benefits? Unless you're trying to confuse me (I avoid the word 'people' as a plague in such temptations), mock up a few scenarios and tell what the heck is going on! haha

Not a problem!:)
