Stan ! You might as well get used to the fact that from this point on; everything you do - even going to the "corner" store, on the bike,....will take at least 3X as long due to the "Interest" ! :woohoo:

Outstanding work Stan - just went back to the beginning of this topic to look at some of your early challenges and pictures of seized pistons and rusty bores - makes my occasional repair/upgrade look like a walk in the park. Well done!

So far all is good. Need to do some maintenance check. Well, actually there is a problem - that right cover with a grommet, it's dripping oil from there. It's fine to ride in town, but on highway those drips become a mist! Cleans my shoes well, LOL
I had no idea about these giving problems and being what seems like actually common. I just read about the alternative 'better' way to do it, so the cover has to come off and re-sealed. In my case, if anyone remembers that nasty intentional botched 'welding' I got from Broadway Welders on Venables (by the Japanese woman there). It was supposed to be just outside cosmetic, but she dirtied the whole area for no reason except being nasty. I had to reshape that grommet space and file a lot, so it might be a bit not exactly like it normally is and adding to the trouble. Now, with it being chromed, it wouldn't be recommended reshaping it! I am going to see what can be done, add extra sealant. But I might keep my eyes open on sourcing another cover and have it all back to as it should be without hassles.

I'm going to re-torque the cylinder head at the same time. When you guys did, did it really 'move' the bolts? When I did another bike they didn't move. I'm wondering what's the story here.

Just another quick bit that came to my mind. The bike start instantaneously after sitting overnight.
There seemed to be a rattle towards the back of the engine around in the top end area. I guessed it was the cam chain. I had tightened it a bit (around 1/8 of a turn on the manual tensioner), and the rattle at start up went away. Right now, any 'noises' on start up go away as soon as the engine picks up the rpm's and stabilizes, which is within a minute.

Have you considered trying some Ally brazing for that area?

A standard MAP type torch will do it on small / thinner sections, so you could fill it completely and reprofile to suit.

1999 K1200LT - now sold, I like them however was nearly as big as my X5 but no faster.
