Yes stocktoy, I read about it on the forum. I followed on the tightening sequence and it still leaked
That 'welder' screwed with the mating surface so much that she made craters there on purpose. (you will know the story if you followed my thread)I used silicone to seal all this.
I am going to re-tighten the screws a bit today when the engine is cold. Otherwise, all is good with the bike. If it still drips oil, I think I will just wrap a piece of cloth around that cover so I can ride and put on miles, and deal with it when the rain comes.

Just a short report how the resurrected bike works.
I drained some engine oil to check on it and it's nice and clear. Nothing, not even a speck of anything in it. So, next oil change will around half way through the braking it in. It will be interesting to take apart the oil flter and see what's in there.

At the bike and car shows I bought this white metal welding/brazing rod stuff that you use with a propane torch. You'd see the guy demonstrating it by filling a hole in the bottom of an aluminum pop can. It worked for me when I had cracked my side cover, took my time and just had to refile the gasket side of cover checking with a straight edge until I got it.

That's the stuff Stockboy, it's a brazing rod.

Just have to be carefull to not overheat the ally (which I did on an attempted K1200 lock repair!) but not so likely on larger parts.

Could you post a link to where they sell and explain these rods?
One thing, in my case the cover is chrome plated, so that might not work. Perhaps I'd need to strip it.
