I think what RChaloner is referring to is a "coupling-nut" which will not fit for use on the front due to the lack of space where the bolt passes along the channel in the engine case. But they are handy....at times!

The one already on the bike came with a proper length coupling already attached (female - female)

The one below is female - male. I think this is what you refer to guys. It was attached to the frame in the back for a reason I don't know. But one like this would be perfect, given it had the right thread size.
I had a hell of a time finding a nut fitting the oem mounting bolt (was missing), and I had to purchase a whole set of brackets and mounting bolts just to salvage one nut! Good thing is I was lucky again to get them very cheap. I might chrome plate them one day and replace those I have right now.

And yes, scotch just said it - it's very tight there. I haven't measured anything, but perhaps with some grinding something like this would fit.

PS. resizing of the reply frame still not working...

Just thinking Stan. if you're going to build a rack for the back, you may want to consider making it big enough for the next move out of the apartment. Saves renting a U-Haul and well , after a total rebuild, you know she's got the power to Gid 'r Dun !!

SCOTCH!! Stop screaming - I can't hear my bike!!!!!!

The bike is resurrected, a wreck no more.
Set it to high quality to watch and hear ;)

It took a few starts to remind the bike how to breathe, and have the fuel, oil and fluids fill all the spaces.
I put a gallon of fuel in the tank and ran it from reserve. Tomorrow filling up.
Few wiggles on the carb to fill everything and get rid of air pockets, all became smooth including start. Had to adjust the idle too as it was low.
I warmed it up, and the fan is working as well! No leaks of any sorts so far, except the usual few drops from the pump weeping hole as it also breaks in (the mechanical seal)
After the bike warmed up, I went trough all the gears - all smooth!
Overall, the engine sounds incredibly silky smooth, including applying a little bit of throttle.
It's basically a brand new bike, it will only improve with time.

Tomorrow a few small adjustments, mainly refining the clutch. Then getting the license plate, and I am going for my first ride! :)

Second video will follow, but it takes ages to upload if good quality.
