Getting more diverse feedback from facebook than here. I guess I will just ask around and post here what worked for me for posterity.

Not to that extend Bill, who would finish the bike with all the knowledge! haha
But it's true. There are hundreds, or sometimes in thousands, readers online, but there is only a very small core of people who post and comment here. It's good to gather info from any source anyway. I will definitely share here what I've learnt and done :)

Yes Bill, I didn't mean to sound nasty. It's just too bad we don't have more people who actively participate in the forum. I bet there are many interesting unique stories and experiences out there to learn from, or just listen to for enjoyment. It seems pretty much everyone goes to facebook these days. When traveling, pretty much everyone asked me what my facebook is. I had no choice but to sign up. Once you there, all sorts of things pop up, all in one place, and I don't blame people exchanging thoughts there about anything form cooking or jokes, real or fake news, to hobbies and science.

So, I bought 3 feet of 1/2 inch diameter copper pipe. Tapped it into the fork and it worked (held it with vice-grips)





Now I can see what's going on, and the suggested making of your own tool using a nut and a steel rod would be the way to go. Next will be a visit to a hardware store to get them, and a welding shop for a quick weld.

You are quite correct, Stan, in what you say regarding contributing to discussions on this forum. Even if all members can't give advice on a particular problem of a technical nature, it would be nice if everyone would at least introduce themselves, and perhaps tell their story as to how / why they became interested in 1300's. Also, their experiences whilst owning and riding these bikes always, for me and I'm sure others, makes for interesting reading.

I'll take this opportunity to thank the stalwarts of this forum - the ones who unfailingly offer their advice and encouragement whenever needed.
