Thank you Lauri. I haven't checked that yet but I will. Thank you for reminding me. The resistor will come off.
I've read that the DW82-TR1 coils usually read 3 Ohms, while the RW82-TR1 should show about 2.6. If the RW read proper resistance, I will stick with them and I think I would prefer not adding a DW into the mix and have everything uniform. I am trying to find the third coil now, but so far nothing locally. Will need to make a couple phone calls and ask around. There should be many around as these seem to be very common. Unfortunately, I don't know of any salvage yard around here where they have motorbikes..

As to the front forks, I think I will use ATF for them. This seems to be a very common practice used by the pros.

I just measured the resistance of the two coils I have. I still don't have a third one so don't know where would that fit.
  • AW82-TR1 - 2.2 Ω
  • DW82-TR1 - 2.7Ω

What would be recommended?

Stan. www.kz1300.com/index.php/forum/suspensio...-replacement?start=6

Metalguru used 5W oil for his rear suspension units.

If you do a search "AW82 Coil" on the forum, you'll find many many posts on the subject. Probably even more than on the cam chain tensioner !

Stan: Canadian Tire used to sell reasonably priced Maxima fork oil (although I can't find it online right now). I have always used (and been happy with - some people think that's heresy) ATV in the past but recently wanted to play with different weights so only option was to go to fork oil.

The viscosity thing is a bit of a mine field and it's impossible to tell what weight you're really getting based on what's written on the bottle. This site may help: transmoto.com.au/comparative-oil-weights-table/

Yes Jim, I've been reading about the coils. Lots of information :) Hard to sort things out though. It seems some people had a straight forwards process with them, some had complications. Those I have are from a bike with 11k km only, they show 2.2 Ohm both. AW should have 2.4-2.6, but even those from Helmut, a direct replacement, showed 2.2 as well for someone. I don't really want to go into playing with other resistors either. Thinking, since the DW show 2.7 (apparently should 3), could I then just install them instead. I am not really an electronics guy and second-guess my every second guessing's. With hopes there is new development to those pretty old posts on the subject. I will keep digging.

Thank you Bucko. Coincidentally, my masters theses were about fuel viscosity! That was a long time ago, and frankly I can't recall now what exactly were all the parameters I was checking. In a nutshell, I had to take samples from fuel tanks as they were emptied and fuel moved around. The fuel had to heated to be usable, and that was also in the equation.

I think I will just go with the transmission fluid, but do more reading before picking up anything.

The AW is on borderline with 2.2 ohms, 2.7 is safe for the transistors. I run both of my A4s with no name coils which have 2.4-2.5 ohms, no problems.
