Yes that's exactly what you do. If you can't be bothered to make one you can buy it already made up from MCG in Germany.

Exactly those negative leads are just ground connections. They can all be spliced into one wire or three-into-one if that makes more sense. Much more important that the positive wires are set up correctly. Some spare wire and solder is all that is needed .

As the others before have correctly replied, its making 3 connections from the one wire (one to each coil).
I much prefer to solder as many contacts on a bike as I can to ensure a good clean signal & then cover with glue lined heat shrink tube to make it 100% water-proof.
Some say that's a bit "over the top" but it makes sure I never have to stand at the side of the road waiting for a recovery truck !!
