My fuel tank is at home with 2 pounds of nails in it. All holes are taped and sealed. I give it a shake once in a while. I also put a few cups of vinegar in to start removing the rust both mechanically and chemically. In a couple days I will remove the nails and rinse the tank. Then I'll fill it up with vinegar and let it sit.
The POR-15 motorcycle fuel tank kit is already on the way. It has a rust removing solution, metal etching solution, and the tank lining. Once done it will last forever!
I called the POR15 company and was told that the etching solution can be reused for conditioning the engine, or any other parts, before painting. Awesome!
In the meantime, I took apart and cleaned the fuel cap. It was all plugged with rusty dry mud. Now all clean ready to assemble. Here a picture of what it looks like dismantled.

The breather seal is damaged, I have to find a replacement. (this should be one piece) If I can't, it should be not difficult to improvise and make it work using something else.

Another mini project. The petcock taken apart. I got it from eBay, and it fits! The distance between the centers of the mounting bolts it 44 mm.
All is good and I will test it after putting it together. But most important is to find and replace the filtering mesh. The plastic doesn't want to come off, I think it's glued to the metal.
So the two options are to find a mesh and attach it using epoxy without removing the plastic cage, or remove it and make a good size mesh from brass and solder it in place.
Not sure yet which way will I go. Still using my imagination and not finished with it yet

It was ALL black, so I had to improve it a bit. Silver lettering and brushed aluminum on the sides, plus a bit softer background. Acceptable? I like it

Keep me posted about that Stan - the screen on my 86 tap is missing and I'm looking for a replacement.
