Speaking of fuel:

If you plan on letting your bike sit for more than a few weeks:

It is a good practice to use fuel stabilizers. Some are snake oil, some work well for their intended purpose.

In our part of the world, "Stabil" and the Archoil stabilizers work well at keeping the fuel adequately suspended and helps promote combustion.

Use products that have independent test results, that backup or support their marketing.

Hi Pete

No further forward.
Removing the air filter made no difference so that's not the problem. All the plugs are now a nice blue colour and the bike is running okay so as far a Colourtune is concerned all is well.
The problem must be with the carbs themselves although I don't know what. If it sver stops raining I'll take it for a blast down the motorway - that'll it clear it out !!

cheers

Glad to hear it !

Its all a bit strange this one...............clutching at straws now, but are you sure the 6 screws are actually touching the bottom of the threaded holes when you screw them all the way IN?
Sometimes the threads get crusty at the lower part of the hole & stop the screw going the full length down ??
Or the point at the bottom of the screw itself can be slightly bent & not allowing it to enter the hole into the venturi meaning it is not going fully home.

OK, I have my tank off at the moment to chase a wiring issue and have access to all the mixture screws.
Should I reset them to the spec and if so what should that be?
The bike ran fine on its first run but did seem a little rich when I looked at the plugs.
Thanks in advance.

Pete - That might be an idea. The carbs are probably needing a good soak in diesel but as I've now got the thing going relatively smoothly I'm a bit reluctant to rip the carbs out and start messing around - especially as the weather is getting a bit better - I'd rather be on the bike than looking at it in the garage..... a job for next winter.

Kel - from recent experience I would say the ONLY way to make sure the mixture screws are set properly is to use a Colourtune plug and ignore everything else.

cheers
