zed_thirteen,

I want to understand what you mean by your last message..........can you possibly explain in more detail ?
I dont think you could put the airbox together in the wrong way.......it would not fit together ???????

The Colortune Plug is the only REALLY EFFECTIVE way to confirm your mixtures are correct.

The only alternative is carrying out a "PLUG CHOP" every-time until you get it right.................which is a lot of unnecessary work.

Every 1300 owners should have a COLOR TUNE Plug in my opinion.

KZA,

Its known as the "Window to your engine" over here.

Problem is today that fuel injection has taken over & has very little or no adjustment at all.

I will never be without one though !

Sorry Pete, It seems genuine K air filters are open at both ends so it doesn't matter which way up you install them.

If you have a K&N air filter it only has an opening at one end of the filter and this has to go down towards the lower air box - not up towards the tool tray. I have seen them installed this way because that's how it looks on the Kawasaki parts diagram (which doesn't show a foam seal on the lower edge of the filter).

I also agree - it is not possible to assemble the air box incorrectly. I do still think the air box design is rubbish. that rubber coated metal gasket bends and falls apart when the front upper air box is slid (it never slides) in between the carbs, the frame and the lower air box. The rear upper air box, the bit with the air filter under the tool tray, does not have a gasket to the lower air box.

I think 30 year old plastics distort and allow dirty air in between the upper and lower boxes.

Just my opinion though.

Totally agree.

If you look at the small airbox nozzle (behind side panel) those 3 mikunis are all trying to breath through on the standard airbox...........neither wonder they run rich !!

The plastic is pretty crap too & the joins in the sections are sucking in air constantly.

Ditch it & go for the modified top section of airbox with 3 filter pods. The bike runs, pulls, sounds & performs SOOOOOOOOO much better. It gives you more storage under the seat too !!

LET IT BREATH !!!!
