I outlined the hole with a light foam draught excluder that would crush down and fill the gap when bolted together. just in case..

The exploded diagram for the airbox shows the air filter with the opening and foam seal at the top - towards the tool tray.

This is not the correct orientation and the opening must face downwards.

It might run like this - I don't trust all of the seals In the different sections of the air box. I think the joint between the rear upper air box and the lower air box is very suspect. it's just two pieces joined together with two bolts and no gasket.

Hello Zed_13:

Help me understand this one. Open on one side and not the other? My factory air filter is open on both ends, with foam tape on either side.

Sorry, :(

I may have confused people. I have been using a K&N filter which is only open at one end.

I had tried a genuine K paper filter and I thought that was only open at one end too - didn't last long though as a backfire set fire to it while it was in my garage. That was a scary moment.

There is a gasket, original one had two center bars and a triangular rubber seal on one face, this photo is a replacement one from the german shop, it's missing the two bars that were spaced along the gasket

That gasket goes between the front upper and lower air box.

I'm talking about rear to lower. The joint just underneath your air filter element - it's just 30 year old warped plastic to 30 year old warped plastic.

Because it is just below the air filter this means that any gaps allow dirty air into the intakes.

Does the Colotrune thing really work as well as you say?
Never seen that before.
