Okay Gents here's one for you.......got the Gunsons colortune out today and all six are running rich - I new that anyway because the plugs were black and sooty. So I adjusted the mixture screws until they were blue and on each of the six screws that amounts to a quarter of a turn out. So instead of my mixture screws being 3 and a half turns out they are only about a quarter to a half out.
Any ideas what's causing it to run so rich ?

cheers

Billy,

When you say your plugs are black & sooty, are you referring to the OUTSIDE ring of the plug or the CENTRE ELECTRODE.??

The OUTER RING is your reference to MAIN JET running (which is always rich on a Z1300 carb model) & the CENTRE ELECTRODE is what you refer to for your pilot mixture settings (up to 1500rpm).

The amount of turns in or out is irrelevant as long as you have a BUNSEN BLUE flame.

Hi Pete

The whole plug is sooty - inner electrode and outer ring. Would that not indicate that it's not getting enough air - or too much petrol ?

cheers

Billy:

Are you running your factory airbox and pipe?

Stock jetting? Mains 110 to 105, Pilot jet should be 42.5 for this configuration.

Float level correct at 6.5 to 8.5 mm?

If you are only turning your idle circuit screw out a fraction of a turn I would suspect someone has installed a larger slow jet, or compression, or weak spark could be a concern.

When the Color-Tune is in use, how bright and constant is that bunsen burner blue color?

Are all 6 plugs fouled the same amount?
