I see.. I will also look at what they have available overall. Home Depot has drawers with all sorts of 'nuts and bolts' etc. Maybe seeing something will inspire me with another solution.

Oh yeah scotch - to what are those two socked heads screwed to? Is there some kind of threaded flange in stock setup?

Just found this photo on the internet and 'borrowed' a part of it. I see what's going on there.

And a photo of mine. Why these are missing?? Someone went through a lot of trouble JUST to take them out! Didn't expect this and why didn't I use a mirror sooner..
Now, I have to find a couple that will match.

If I remember correctly there is a threaded captive nut in each of those two holes, to accept a bolt. And I believe the OEM bolt was a Philips-head if you wan t to stay authentic.
Bucko has a good point regarding the insert expansion. .....and I was going to say "Insert" but knowing you're from the other side of the Planet I thought "Threaded Pop-Rivet " would make sense. I should brush-up on my Polish !
Your $12.00 cam-cover was a great deal !............provided you didn't pay $60.00 for shipping !:woohoo:
If you have a machine-shop remove the "Boxes" then you could finish the cover any way you wanted (POL-ISH ! ) If you choose to cut them off with a hacksaw and you are careful, then you could finish the cover any way you wanted (POL-ISH ! ) Of course there's the 6 holes to contend with ! They could be "tig" filled on the top of the cover and would likely POL-ISH almost invisibly, It would look good painted too; in which case you can just fill the entire port (X6) with a high temp. epoxy !
You should have said something earlier about looking for "another" cover as I have my original that I modified, epoxy-filled and painted in a Black Wrinkle and it's been solid for 25+ years? Now that I have a rare one that was made without the reed-boxes and damned near crippled my hands by polishing it - I don't need the original.

I see scotch we are in competition who will post post faster! hahaha

I paid $8.50 for shipping :) I know exactly what you mean - those 1.99 deals with 79.99 shipping. I've seen even worse. 0.99 with 129.99 shipping... That should be banned! I admit I made a mistake ONCE bidding very late at night, but pointing it out to the seller the 'deal' was cancelled.

Thanks for the offer scotch! I wasn't really looking for a cover, it just happened to be there and at this price I decided to invest this much in the future. And at this point I wouldn't be changing over anyway - it's the future! :woohoo: It cost me way too much blood and sweat to abandon the current cover - those valve covers were the first things I POLISHED on this bike! They are a part of the history. ANd you might need your cover for the next KZ1300 you will be eventually getting, I am sure! What would you do when the current one has nothing to improve? ;)

Doing this one, I would like to keep those valve covers for looks, except as I said as low as possible, so they are not in a way and easy to remove so I can cook some eggs when hungry on the road :)

They were likely deliberately removed The captive nuts(?) were probably rusted/seized and just rotated within the retainer along with the screw. That would explain why they're missing.
