Wonder if it would be worth the effort to inqire on if a company like Airtech Streamlining can produce custom tanks for us. They already have a lineup of "race" tanks that they make for Z1 (which also fits KZ900 and KZ1000), A1R2, H1H2, H2R, CR and other "vintage" bikes.

Don't think it would be too crazy to just ask if they're willing to offer one for 1300's or at least be willing to modify a z1 tank to be a good fit. Had thought about doing that for my tank when I found rust but put it aside when I was able to refurb it :).

I like Mike's suggestion with the Airtech products.

Plus the cutout for the knees would make the bike more comfortable to ride.

One of the complaints I have on the factory tanks:

My A-4 has the smaller peanut tank and I still feel like I am getting a colonoscopy (lol) by having my legs splayed open.

Right :). In addition, those tanks are fiberglass which have some benefits over our steel tanks. They're not as heavy, and impervious to rust for example.

There's still a downside, though, if you crash the bike or damage the tank you could rupture it and suddenly become ghost rider under the right circumstances.

Heck, if we can get them to do that, maybe get them to offer up headlight buckets, panels, fenders, seat pans etc. as well :p. Longshot though.

Anyone venturing that far needs to post results!

If you would leave this tank out on the porch some night, I will make sure you get the empty box back....................:)

Fibre-glass tanks are not a good idea for road use as you mentioned and why they are not used on new road bikes. Not to mention the problems with ethanol eating or softening the inside of the tank - too many problems.
