Hey!!! Don't be so hard on yourself. Half (or most of) your problem are those damned Magpies that keep stealing your carb parts. You get that bike of yours back on the road and then you'll have to deal with the Roo's. All we have here on Ontario is a few dumb deer and a load of Skunks. I'd rather hit a deer than run over a skunk.

Very astute you are scotch. Catastrophic is a great term used by gentlemen instead of saying 'what the #@&**! Yes I thought someone may point out a possible crack. Very likely indeed as the bike has many repairs of such kind that were all done prior to me purchasing. The underside of the crank case has had some major welding, the fuel tank also shows signs of major welding on its underside. There has been repairs on the inside of the engine cover using cold weld and because its like a black/grey colour I decided to make the assumption the stator was melted lacquer (light brown colour). The more I think about it the more likely scenario is the oil leak epoxy fix.

As I noted before I have ordered a new stator and a resistance rectifier and now I will check the voltage regulator (thanks for your tip on that one :) ). Will let you now how they all test.

HELP REQUIRED. New stator and reg/res arrived today. Very excited! BUTit's not the same as the one that was in there. I'm a first timer pulling the bike apart so you might want to keep that in mind. Any way my question is what is the outer diameter of the stator supposed to be as well as the inner diameter? The bike stats are Engine no. KZT30AE016578, 1983 A5 Z1300. All and any help appreciated.

I had the same issue trying to find one the same size for mine wich is an a5 as well.I ended up repairing my stator.
But the other alternative i found was a guy in gosford that rewinds them. www.dropbears.com/r/rewinds/
You might be ok though if the center hole diameter is the the same theres a chance the width won't matter.
Heres a thread on mine it has the measurements .
