Hello to one and all. I have a 1983 Z1300 A5 with sidecar and have been the owner for past 7 years. Not much has been done to the bike in those years as I have been too busy and couldn't find anyone local who was prepared to work on her. I have recently stopped working and and so has the bike, so this give me something to get my teeth into and my hands dirty. For the past 2 years the bike has had problems with not starting when hot and that explains why last year it did a whopping 113km's.

So I am on a very steep learning curve getting familiar with the in's and out's of the beast which has led me to join KZ1300.com.

I would like to get opinions about the state of the alternator rotor and stator. I'm figuring the stator is cactus but I' not sure about the rotor as it has the coating on the outer edge coming off (see photo), will the condition of the rotor effect the proper working of the alternator?

Forgot to ask, what's the best way to remove the stator? I have removed the 2 screws of the wiring harness and also the 3 screws on the stator, I just don't want to force anything and the stator seems to be in there pretty darn good.

Cheers

Gidday from a bit further north. Looks like that stator has been deep fried and is most likely full of short circuits and earths. You can get them rewound, I had one done aboout 2001 but unfortunately he is no longer in business and is retired like you and me. They are notorius for burning out. It should just lift off there so maybe the molton goo has made it stick.

With those bolts removed it should just lift straight off. It may just be a little tight on the aluminium guide in the center.

The electrex stators are very good

Thanks RickG. I have ordered the Electrex Stator and Res/Rec from Wemoto. I just want to make sure now that the condition of the rotor isn't going to refry the new stator.
