Have you thought of using a metal detector in his favourite places?

Sure have, bought a cheap one of ebay a couple of yrs back but I think they went missing last wknd so stuff that has been dropped during the week has been binned and gone, have looked at his burial spots but no good.
Still on the lookout as I tried today but they reckon they couldn't build them as they need to be pretty spot on :(

You can do this Buddy. Get the brass shim plate stock, drill one of the two holes and then screw one of your butterfly plates to the shim plate, locate the second hole using the drill bit and drill the second hole. install the second screw. then use a scribe and mark the circumference of the butterfly plate. Dismantle the shim stock from the butterfly plate and cut off the excess material. Take a felt marker and run it around the circumference of the butterfly plate. bolt the two pieces back together and hand file the outside diameter of the shim stock and watch the marker on the outside of the butterfly plate. If it starts to come off, you know your at the point of stopping the filing in that spot.

I made duracon washers for the carburetor piston valves this way and Zed_thirteen can attest to the fact that they were spot on.

Hi Kawboy, the duracon washer was spot on thank you.

Sorry to put a bit of a downer on this idea but I think the top and bottom edges of the throttle plates are angled - if you look at the plate from the side you can see its rhomboidal

I think Homer's best bet is to be patient and just keep buying the individual carb bodies that come up on eBay now and again (as long as they have throttle plate) until he has enough. I often see carbs that are listed but missing loads of bits like pistons, needles, floats etc.
