Zed:

You may have done so already but there are some great youtube videos on ("clocking) rings.

That is Setting ring gaps, and making sure ring gap is adequately set in place. I could go into more but the video's speak for themselves.

Regards.

The piston to bore clearance was the only measurement my machine shop seemed concerned about also. Each piston was numbered for each bore. Nothing about the rings.

Misery needs company. Last oil ring of last piston- damn!
Wonder if it can be straightened ?

trying to straighten that would be asking for trouble down the track and not very far down the track either.

You are right Rick- after sleeping on it, wisdom has prevailed.
$60.00 for a complete new set from Japan is not so bad- just the time it will take.
Watched F1 from Melbourne instead.

Finally got the cylinder block back on today. A right swine of a job to get the last piston in from the top and then try to get the wrist pin back in when you can't get a t the con rod.

Need to try and get hold of some 3Bond 1211 to add seals around the water jackets on the aftermarket gasket. Anyone know of any UK suppliers?
