My KZ is an 81. Any body know of a source for the silicone or rubber seals that mate the carb to the airbox? These have spring tensioners on the carb side.,
Thanks

Thanks Jim,
I managed to find a product that softens and cleans rubber products. It got me past one more carb R&R.

Unfortunately, I've not ridden my 1300 since I rode it in the KZRider carry the flag effort in 2017. It rode well enough on that trip but I wanted to take one more stab at cleaning and adjusting the carbs before I decided I was satisfied.

I'd made a bad decision years ago when I put a DG six into one exhaust system on it before I ever got the bike back on the road. I had no base line to work from. Fortunately the folks at Dyno Jet had a jet kit for my application and with their kit and advice I only had to remove and replace the carbs four or five times to get it right. Following their advice I'd installed 96 main jets but had to set the clips in the sixth notch to get it to stop surging, asit was running too lean.
This time I replaced the main jets with 100s and set the needle clips in the third groove. So far I've had it out for two trips the last of which was ten or so miles in length. The bike starts eagerly with only a bit of choke and runs smoothly up to about 6K. I didn't try to spin it up any faster, it was going just fine.

While I had the carbs off I used Scotch's absolutely great carb cleaning tool to flush out those tiny passages and jets. It worked great. Thanks Scotch!
Now comes the carb sync. I've never had any success syncing these three duces. If you have and advice on how to get it done, I'd appreciate hearing it. I'm not actually convinced a syncing is needed as the bike will idle smoothly at about 650 RPM.
Regards
Bill

Hi KZQ , what is this Product you have found to clean and soften rubber ? My inlet rubbers are a little hard , I have fitted aftermarket ones , but would prefer to run the original .Thanks .

I'm in or was in the window business so I was aware of a product that the manufacturer of my glass cups recommends to keep the rubber supple ( my claim, not theirs). It's called MAXTITE it's distributed with every glass cup that Woods Power Grip sells. They claim that, among other things, that it's a rejuvenating spray for glass cups. I can't say for sure that it doesn't just act like a lubricant but I'll credit it with making the reassembly of my air box easier. I checked their website, the MAXTITE is not available as a separate item.

I had to buy some new ones as mine were well beyond it, so I bought the ones from Germany.

However.... try as I might, I cannot get the air box back onto the carbs... ! They keep slipping off and I have to apply so much pressure to get all three rubbers to slip onto the carbs its unreal, and beyond my strength!

I have tried everything, oil, grease, vaseline, dry with spit, the pressure I have to apply across the three rubbers to get them to slip on is just too much.

I have also tried rubbers on carbs and pushing the air box on, and the other way round; rubbers on air box and pushing that onto the carbs - even two on the one side and one on the other.

No dice - wasted Sunday.

Before I take the carbs off the bike and try it on the bench, is there a 'smart' way to do this that I obviously am not smart enough to think of?
