I am not a big fan of reading from a laptop screen when trying to use a manual so I print the pages out and any notes I write on them get transferred to the electronic version later. Next time I have a nice clean copy to use with notes attached.

Just an up date on my long running carb saga.
Following on from all the advice I have gladly received I have re built the carbs after making the carb cleaning pump and using thinners.
Well the bike ran great on an auxiliary petrol tank set up, even got the idle to work very well. I had to take the pilot air screws out 5 turns before it would run even close to reasonable but having done a plug chop it is still running rich so I will take them out a little more. The bike has a six into one fitted by the way.
However ( you all knew this was coming ) when I fitted the kz tank it still ran well. I had to pop out to do something for 20 minutes and when I came back I tried to fire the bike up again, it was having none of it - fortunately - I than noticed petrol running out of the air box and the exhaust. This bike is not fitted with a vacuum tap. I know I need to look at the float levels again but I took a lot of time to set them up correctly so I struggle to understand why they would be flooding the bike again. The floats are all good and seem to shut off fine when on the bench - help please - I am so close to getting it right I can almost see myself finally riding the bike

I found that the retaining clip that holds the float needle in on some rebuild sets does not clear the needle well and causes it to stick open, hence the flooding, so I found the original clips and haven't had a problem since

I just finished rebuilding a set of carbs and on one of the carbs when I pulled out the retaining screw and clip for the float needle seat, the needle seat was so loose in the carb body, that it fell out when I turned the carb over. the o ring had shrunk so much probably from the ethanol they put in the fuel. I changed out all of the O-rings in my carbs to Viton so they'll seal properly.
If that o ring on the needle seat is leaking, it will allow the carb to flood slowly.

I also agree with Pete (KZA13) When you install the float, flip the carb over right side up and raise /lower the float and watch the needle moving in the needle seat. If it doesn't free fall, have another look at the retaining clip. you may find it's distorted enough to cause the needle to bind which could cause flooding. I had to tweak all of my retaining clips before I was happy with the needle movement.
