"And let the measurement of the fire-liquid within the first chalice be henceforth measured from The Lip. Let not the measurement be seen from elsewhere but from that only of The Lip. And the Measurement from The Lip shall be that of 7.5. Let not this Measurement be that as to exceed a measure of 8.5 nor shall Ye allow the measure to be less than 6.5. Whence one witnesses within the first chalice the divine measurement that of 7.5 allow only this measurement to procreate from The Lip of the second and third and then and only then ride forth in the glory of the harmony and unity of the chalices three."

I hate to have to comment on this, as I'm sure you more experienced guys have heard this discussion toooo often, but as some of us are still on our first carb assembly iteration..

Stans' vernier pictured is indeed in the right place, is it not?

The manual says to measure form the bottom of the carb body, which is the machined flange surface, and as you quite logically say Scotch, that is the only (or the most convenient externally at least) reference surface relative to the jets, whereas other parts of the bowl outer dimensions should be assumed to be variable, depending on casting type, gasket age etc.

So when you say for Stan to move his vernier, can you confirm you do advise measuring 6.5 - 8.5mm from the machined flange as per the manual, or are you saying that's been superseded by a different or better practice?
(the reason for asking is of course that the flange at the top of the bowl, if one were to measure from it's lower outer surface, is another 4 or 5 mm so a massive variance)

Sorry guys, hope I'm not flogging an excessively dead horse here...
