If you read through the FAQ section you'll find a lot of bad theory about 13s and vaporlocks. In my opinion the problems with vapor locking are always associated with a roller coaster arrangement of the fuel lines and that's primarily a result of the location of the fuel solenoid. Additionally, all the discussion about pulse fuel pumps is wasted energy expended to over come poor fuel line routing.
I cleaned up my 81 KZ1300 by adding a Pingle petcock and eliminating the solenoid. Have never had any fuel issues since.

1. Warm up the engine until the fuel flow slows.

2. Disconnect fuel line at petcock. If flow from petcock insufficient, problem is petcock or fuel tank.

3. If flow from petcock is sufficient, reconnect fuel line. Disconnect line at outlet of fuel solenoid. If flow is insufficient = bad fuel solenoid.

If the restriction is at the fuel tank, petcock, or fuel valve solenoid (assuming it is still in place)the fuel pump will gain you nothing.

Careful with the fuel pump. If its pressure is more than about 3 psi, it will overwhelm the ability of the floats to close the float valves.

1.7 to 2.3 psi fuel pump. I'll take the bike on the highway tomorrow, that will be the real test. Lot of good info thanks guys.
