This is a link to a previous topic covering the  Gas Tank Venting System
Although the stock tank venting system uses the vent tube in the tank, an aftermarket fuel tank filler cap may have an alternative vent built into the cap itself. You'll have to take a really good look at the cap and see if it vents to atmosphere without using the vent tube in the tank.

On the stock fuel tank cap, when the cap is closed on the tank, the rubber seal is compressed , exposing the vent hole in the cap (see pic)

An aftermarket fuel cap may have something similar and it might vent through the key cylinder, maybe, I don't know. Having the stock fuel cap uses the fuel vent pipe to also act as an overflow and spill excess fuel onto the ground and not allow fuel to  flow out the top and all over the tank and seat, or maybe your crotch.

The current OEM reference is the following 51049-1136.

It is mounted on several Kawa models, is in stock and costs around 190 euros.

They have gone crazy, before spending that money I am capable of mounting a cork stopper.

I found these photos online, you can see the complex membrane system that acts inside, letting air in, blue line, preventing fuel from escaping, red line.

In the original cap you can see the small hole through which the tank breathes.

The cap that I have installed comes from aftermarket, it has no holes, no breathing system, it doesn't even look like it does its job properly sealing the tank.

Cheap is expensive as hell.

The fuel cap I pictured in a previous post was for a 15048-1019 and was used on 1979, -1982 model years and both A and B models. and as I pointed out, the vent hole is hidden behind the seal ring.
I have no idea where you came up with part #51049-1136. All I found was that it fits a 1993 KZ1000 police tank.

Reference 51048-1019 is unavailable.

Its substitute reference is 51049-1136, it was mounted on motorcycles from the mid-'80s to almost the end of the '90s.

" Same tank as MCG TANK but with new original Kawasaki tank cap (see next article MCG TANKD-2). "

The above quote came from the german shop- talking about their replacement  gas tank.
But the next item listed is the gas cap itself , and it doesn't say it's  51048-1019. Maybe have to ask him , if the oem is needed.
I've used the aftermarket caps , they were available at a number of sellers - I never fill the tank right full with fuel and once the cap is closed , it looks like oem .
