Today I cleaned the block so I could install the head gasket. It sits well. I have also assembled the cylinder head without tightening the screws with their corresponding torque.

Also missing are the two 6mm screws that go inside the cylinder head.

By the way, I have decided to paint the engine now that I have it out of the mark.

Can anyone tell me if the pickup is also painted or just polished?

Trying to remember. I don't recall my OEM engine having a polished pickup.

Maybe search some museums like Barber and look for pics?

I've seen a lot of pictures of the 1979 KZ1300 and all of them have either polished or chromed engine covers. To me, something is off when the polished covers are mounted on a light silver painted engine. It just doesn't look right to me.
I've seen black painted engines with the engine covers polished and it's a nice look.

I'm fond of this look everything painted grey

The ignition pickup is as cast bare aluminum.  Not painted or chrome plated.

We now know why your ex is an ex.  My condolences on the loss of your 1979 KZ1300.
