I wouldn't call it off topic. It's your rescue/rebuild and you have rather unusual circumstances to do a restoration in. Most would have a shop to do this in if for nothing else, to ensure that the pieces that go astray, are within the walls of the shop. You on the otherhand could lose a piece on the pavement during transport. Can't wait to seee you back pack that engine while riding the Wing. and I guess the frame will be an extension of the back rack??

Goto give you points for your perserverance under the conditions you have to work with. Just hope that as it goes back together, someone doesn't "relieve you" of some parts.

Thanks for the laugh! :) You bet, I would do it on the Goldwing! haha (from 83, one helping the other!) But I will get a van from u-haul.
I will need a pair of helping hands to lift that engine, it would be no space for a passenger with all the junk loaded! And I would probably need to weld that engine to the Goldwing frame so it want fall off. It's a car this time. All at once, one trip.

I started elaborating about my crazy somewhat life, but you're right, it is has a place for it here as well.

Parts 'walking away', and tools as well, was one of my concerns. Obviously. That's why tools always go back home with me after each underground session. So do any removed parts, except these wheels nobody would be interested in and they hide under the covers. I got a bunch of food plastic bags from Costco. Everything I take off goes into a marked baggie and home. Then I clean and polish them one by one in the comfort of my living room while on a coffee table watching Forged in Fire and other Discovery channel gems. All my stuff is here. All will be done here. Except firing up the engine that is. I have many photos for reference, and going over things at home and doing mock-ups refreshes my memory. Actually, at this stage I could put back together the parts done and sitting in plastic bags with closed eyes. There will be some details needed learning and checking, but mostly electrical, adjustments, and I still have the carburetor to figure out. Having everything cleaned, painted, all the gaskets in place, sub-components (carbs, cylinder head, wheel assy, filters), I could put the bike together in one careful long day. The problem will be getting parts missing. I have no seat, no headlight, no winkers, no tail. Then also painting of the covers and the tank. But that I will have eventually covered as well :)

If/when you get the valve seat cutters you will also need cutting fluid to keep the swarf clearing the carbide cutter faces. That's where most people go wrong and try to cut the seats dry and then condemn the cutters for a lousy finish. Just thought I'd tell you so you can get the fluid when you get the cutters.

I started some responses to your questions - got pulled away - went back and finished - hit submit and voila - I was "timed out", lost the whole response and had to start over.....3X
you'd think I'd learn?

So from "what's left of my memory" and in no order; So, yes, the "well" for the choke pick-up tube has a metering jet in it as does the end of the pick-up tube. I can not give an explanation as to why 2 metering jets. The one in the pick-up seems obvious. The one in the bottom of the well - ?
The header collector is in 2 photos. I "wrapped" to the outside bend of the D.G. (Makers name) header because it also passes under the rear brake M/C. I figured - "Why not".
Take a close look at my center-stand ! You should notice something! Also - With the mod required (on mine at least) to allow the stand to be used with a D.G, it retracts up almost out of site.

Thank you Scotch, including the warning about the time out feature. I think it happened to me once right after I signed up and was still figuring out how the forum works.

I see, the DG pipes are a custom replacement. That's where the discussion about polishing the pipes come from. Thanks to which, now I know my stock pipes are double walled.
Looking at the center stand, I see a bundle of pipes going through it in a bundle close to the middle of frame. I think my stock is not as busy, or at least differently laid out, and further to the outside. For now I am staying with stock - except for some chrome problems it is solid.
