After soaking the friction plates in oil - ready for assembly.

First - friction plate. Then 2 steel plates. Next friction, next 2 steel and so on.

The last friction plate has to be fit different way as all the others. See the red dot.





Impatient. I just closed this sucker in! Can't imagine what could go wrong! All clean and done correctly. The first shiny cover is on!!!!

I'm still really happy with this ! That bit of extra length does make a difference but I have no comparative experience with a hyd conversion. It's a very simple and easy modification and may satisfy the need. If not - then move on to the hyd. conversion. I also made a more robust cable-end retainer (pivots from the arm) as the OEM was showing some distortion after 30+ years. Basic tools are all you need. The original acrylic cover developed a stress-crack at each hole so made a completely new one which eliminates this. Merely a very precise press in fit for the "window" with "thread-lock" to further secure/seal it.

This I will look into A small enough improvement that wouldn't side track the main progress!
