Rear brake update:

The hole at the end of the dust seal is made for this fit indeed, over the 'disc'. Now we have the final product ready to go on the shelf :)

That looks better! And the whole assembly looks fantastic. The bike is going to be really eye catching with all the extra chrome on it.

Started on the crank case cleaning. Water, detergents, toothbrush, sponge, sand paper, rags, and lots of repetition. After the clean up, the surfaces looked surprisingly good. Far from perfect, but actually in a very acceptable to even leave them as is condition. The bike wouldn't look ugly at all. With a light coat of silver spray, all would look like new. But I set my mind on making it black, so I followed up according to this plan.
I got to the point where I felt confident to give an area a coat of black to see how it will hold up. No primer needed because of the original coating left in place (I've read others went this way with full success). It looks good and solid already! The instruction says it will be good in 24 hours. I have no need for touching it for longer than this, so this will be a perfect test. I need to clean all the other accessible as is areas and remove all old gaskets. The latter will be probably 80% of the job whole job!

After a long search I went with the PJ1 satin black paint. Love it! I can already see it - the engine will look awesome. Feeling very motivated :)

Slowly but surely progressing today. Halfway through the removal of the cylinder block bottom gasket. What's next? The other half! I'd call it the 'better half' as it will mean I'm finished when I'm done! :lol:

I give myself a generous one week to finish the crank case fully including painting and ready to go back in the frame.



The North side still has gasket stuck to it. That will be taken care of tomorrow.

The engine paint looks very very good so far. I think a satin finish has a great advantage compared to gloss for jobs like this, especially in black. Apart from the clutch and alternator covers, what will you paint the cylinder, head, and valve cover with?
When will your frame be finished at the powder coating company?

Yes, agreed. Satin black and chrome will go together very well.
The cylinder head will be black, and the cover is already black (except the reed valves already polished aluminum for now, might chrome plate them later)/

The cylinder block, hmmm... The one assembled and ready will be painted same satin black, BUT I am exercising an alternative - I have another cylinder block from an earlier model. It is in perfect shape except needs one new sleeve. It is original bright color. I bought a pulse pick up housing and cover, all in great shape, and I am thinking about installing this block and using the pick up housing as a storage compartment. In this case, the block would be original bright color. I will post photos when I get to making this decision.

The frame, I am thinking standard gloss black, although it crossed my mind to make it sort of metallic carbon, if that's the correct name. It's still up in the air. What do you think?

The frame is still at my home. The weather was shitty here so I've been waiting for change. I think I will rent a van next week on a sunny day and go. First to the sand blasting place, then directly to the powder coating place. I was told it's a couple days if using common colors, and up to a week if some specialty schemes. So, I should have the frame powder coated in 2 weeks at the latest, but could be by the end of next week.

What do you think?
