speedo and tach needles
10 years 11 months ago
Has anyone checked out the following at a parts-yard ? '84 Monte Carlo, 82-89 Volvo 240,'93-'97 Toyota Supra, Toyota MR2, '80 Honda CB900C, '78-'82 'Vette. Just did a quick Google search and these vehicles appear to have very similar needles. Resources where I am are limited.

Without seeing the spindle of the vehicle it would be hard to tell if that needle will work on the 1300's spindle.

Regarding the needles, I also wanted to keep the stock bike look but had trouble finding needles that matched in size and color.
I tried needles from both an 81 Honda CB750K and from a honda 79 cx500. Even though the ones from the cx weren't matched in color, the style was a good match and they pressed on without issue. The CB750K ones did not fit on though the hole in the middle was too big.
The monte carlo needles you mentioned seemed pretty close to what we have. No telling if they will be a direct fit until you try.
If you do wind up trying them out let us know if they're a good press-on fit
. I'd definitely be interested in finding out!
Regarding sluggish tach needles. If they're moving slow like that you should take the underlying assembly off, give it a good cleaning and oiling and put it back in. You'll notice a huge difference!

Buy a couple cheap plastic hobby paint brushes and sand down 1/2. Makes a perfect needle.
