water pump bevel drive gear wanted HELP!!

Cannot believe this gear was damaged,and in more disbelief that they are hard to get.can anybody help.I think the part number is 49022-1015

Yup the German shop it the only option for a new one, usually the water pump gear failure is the result of overheating. (and then of coarse the cause of overheating).

Might be time to do your water pump seal and the small oil seal on the water pump drive shaft too. They are pretty inexpensive insurance considering the work to get to those parts in the future.

Be aware there are 2 types of water pump bevel gear for 1300's.

One is fitted to the A1 & A2 (with pick ups behind the cylinders) and the other for every other model A3 onwards (pick ups on end of crank).

You can use either of them on all models A3 onwards but the A1 & A2 must be from the A1 & A2........as they have the splined drive added for the pick ups.

Water Pump Drive Gears normally only fail if your bike gets too hot or is low on oil and the nylon gets soft and fails.

I have tried the German reconditioned type and had numerous failures as many others have here in the UK.

Strate6 its right, I found that you can put an earlier gear on the later style biKes, but you cannot run the later style on the '79 and '80 bikes. I put a used gear from a '79 in my bike (81) when I redid the top end.

So it is advisable to find a used gear in good condition before buying the reproduction part?
