IIRC it was because the ZG1300 that was introduced in 1984 produced 130 bhp that provoked the French government to introduce the 100 bhp limit

That makes sense. Have just the bike here for a street. Has upswept stainless twin cans and simple tail already.

The 145 Hp Yamaha Vmax 1200 from the same era was also neutered to 100 Hp in Europe. Not sure when the first Vmax showed up in Europe, as it was made with North American market in mind, but the first year for them was 1985. They plugged the v-boost T connector so it was working as normal below and above the 6000 rpm. I was always full power in the USA and Canada.

The 100BHP Vmax had NO V Boost System fitted at all, thats how it was 100BHP as the V boost gave it the extra 45BHP.
I bought a Euro Spec one in 2001 and fitted the whole V Boost System to it.

That's what I said Pete - neutered and plugged, and.....
it was working as normal below and above the 6000 rpm.
