cam chain replacement
7 years 5 months ago
Hi Guy's, I need to change my cam chain. Any instructions or photos would be very helpful. I also need to know if this can be done from the top engine cover.

Re: cam chain replacement
7 years 5 months agoI did it . You have to buy a new chain AND a master link AND a chain peening tool. You split the chain, feed it in and around the secondary shaft in the bottom of the engine, assemble the master link and using the tool, deform the end of the masterlink pins.z13phil wrote: Hi Guy's, I need to change my cam chain. Have a look at my thread on this.

I've done it on a Honda engine. Didn't use a master link, just pressed a pin out, connected it to the old chain, dragged the new chain in while pulling the old one out, then connected the links and pushed the pin back in. You need to pull your cams before doing this the carefully re-time everything.
Got to say: I've never felt 100% comfortable with doing this but so far, no problems (touch wood).
