Very nice, well done. I was thinking of making one but was worried about getting the correct registration. I figured I could ensure it got reset every time I hit neutral but it would really annoy me if it got out of sync

So did you make it? Inquiring minds want to know. Also curious if you've tried the 'universal' ( magnet) versions before and had problems?
I made the two key components. A spring-loaded contact that mounts to the "Pin Holder" (a completely misleading name) and a multiple contact plate (a stator) that's mounted to the inside of the shifter cover.
Some reading-up on the "universal" type (using a magnet between two reed-switches) exposed a common complaint regarding misreading's. Plus, I didn't want this "garbage" anywhere on the outside.
I'll answer questions and offer some solid ideas.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like something I would like to try on my hobby CNC.
Did you have or still have some contact? Looks like there is some rotational scaring

My spring-loaded contact has 7mm of travel. The distance to the stator has the contact 1/2 way through this range of travel. The "scaring" (Ouch !) is actually the ink from a felt-pen that was applied to the contact to confirm a concentric position.
I've since "cleaned-up" the parts - not that they'll be seen.
