GPZ900R / ZX900R FUEL TAP / PETCOCK QUESTION ??
10 years 11 months ago - 10 years 11 months ago
I found a post on this site recently with someone mentioning that the GPZ900R / ZX900R Petcock will directly fit onto our Z/KZ1300.
This was great news, as I have always experienced issues with our NON VACUUM controlled petcock, as even with new seals fitted it still often leaks past when in the OFF position, leading to carbs flooding & filling the engine full of fuel.
The obvious benefit of the GPZ900R tap is that it is VACUUM CONTROLLED petcock meaning it is only open when the engine is running & the pipe from the inlet manifold is delivering pressure.
I HAVE ONE QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO HAS FITTED THIS NEW PETCOCK
Do you only feed the VACUUM petcock with ONE pipe from ONE of the 6 inlet manifold bolts, or do you need to feed from TWO ?
Advice / experiences appreciated !

Pete, I would think - as has been stated before - that it is better to be fed by two intakes in order to smooth out the pulses and therefore be kinder to the fuel tap. However, I don't know if you have looked at this :
www.gpzzone.co.uk/gpzzone/technical/fueltap.html
It would seem that the tap took vacuum from only one intake on the GPZ900.
My old XS1100 had dual taps, vacuum operated, but I can't recall the vacuum pipe arrangement.
Don't you like the Pingel tap? It looks well made.

Thanks guys..........
I had considered a PINGLE but they dont offer a vacuum model, which is what I want as my memory aint as good as it used to be & I fear leaving tap ON...........which would not matter with a vacuum type.

You only need ONE vacuum line from the intake manifold to open the fuel tap- just like the original was done.
We posted about this a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if this link will work. But it was post #1287 - we were discussing auxillary fuel pumps.

Anyone ever consider what effect it would have on the vacuum operation of the carbs if you joined all the vacuum lines together? Just curious .
I imagine it might not have much effect but while I'm thinking about it if a cylinder is on it's intake stroke wouldn't that vacuum pulse also get transferred to the carbs not currenlty on that intake stroke as well?
Was asking cause I had considered joining them all into one since I have a vacuum bolt on each of the 3 intake heads but only one is in use...
