Engine Painting progress, working around this now layering it on coat by coat using a heat gun as I go to help with the going of process using an Hammerite smooth straight from the can. Might keep the yellow water pipe on as a reminder.

Mark, that looks very nice indeed, has a factory / OEM finish to it !
Ive used PJ1 and Simoniz engine enamels on other project bikes: I never considered Hammerite as was not sure about heat resilience; but will defo be using it on my Z13 when I need a freshen up. Thanks for the tip.

Simply the most impressive engine ever fitted in a motorcycle...........and you just made it the best looking too !

Great job that mate..........looks fanatastic.

I can assure you that paint will stay on the motor forever as long as you prepared the metal correctly before spraying, which it looks like you did.

Now its just getting it back in the frame without marking It !

Please show us the finished result.

I wrapped my engine in an old blanket so I could get it in without bumping it around and scratching the finish. Once where it needed to be I cut the blanket away and there wasn't mark on the engine. Awkward but no marks.

Don't know if this is practical for the Z, but for all my previous 4 cyl bikes it was easiest to lay the motor on its side and lift the bare frame over it to bolt the engine back in. Not sure how much a 13 frame weighs.......but it's got to be less than the motor....haha....
