Yeah it seems to be a big topic of contention haha

Just a quick update. I decided to go with the white vinegar approach for my rusty gas tank. So far I filled the tank with about 5.5 gallons of vinegar. I’ve done nothing else. It’s been soaking for 48 hours now and the results are looking great. Most of the rust has loosened or lifted away. Im going to let it sit for 2 more days then flush it all out and neutralize the residual acid with baking soda. I’ll updates picture tomorrow.
Thank you all for the advice!

If you use a POR tank kit, which includes a cleaner, rust stripper and liner, and follow the directions, it'll last forever.

It’s going pretty well with the distilled vinegar, but there is a lot of pitting in the metal. I think I’ll take your recommendation and do the POR 15 Kit with sealer.
Below is a picture of the tank after 3 days with just distilled vinegar.
Cheers

Hi Whiskey1300,
I really don't like the epoxy liners, mostly because of the botched efforts I've seen.
Some years ago I wrote an article about how I prefer to clean a gas tank.
Here it is:

Let me know what you think. I've cleaned more than a few tanks with this method and always liked the outcome.
