From Ray -
"Update. After getting a battery and turning it over daily with ATF in the cylinders I did a comp test. It wasn't great but good enough to run which means it had about what a 36hp VW would have. I rigged up a fuel supply today and got gas to it to check for carb leaks and there were none. Set the choke faced the east and crossed my fingers and hit the button. The damn thing spun a couple revolutions and started on all six holes. Took it off the choke and it idled just fine. Seem to have all its gears and all the electrical works except the horn. Next I'll let it get good and warm and check out the cooling system and fan functions.
This thing hasn't run in 30 years . I'm pretty sure it was put away properly.
More later."
