Have started a slow rebuild of my 85-model. Today I started to clean the gas tank. I have read that electrolysis can give good results. It’s cheap and effective. I have never tried it before but I wanted to give it a try.

This is how it looks after 6 hours.

The electrolysis test went great. The process require little effort and the result is fantastic. Now the tank is clean on the inside and on the outside

Looks great. Nice and clean. Will you be sealing it now with POR 15 or another product? I ask because the metal in the tank looks very pebbled and would probably benefit with some kind of sealant.

Absolutely, but in the mean time I have just added some two stroke oil.
I bought some Kreem sealant, but it seems that many people are not so happy with that brand. Maybe POR 15 is better?

As I understand it POR 15 is the way to go. I haven't heard of any problems once it's done. I will admit that I personally haven't used it yet.

All the way POR-15. I talked last week to a local guy who has been racing bikes his whole life, and has been in bike business (including teaching at a college), and he told me bad stories about Kreem sealant. It's not that it's a bad product, but Kreem is unforgiving when it comes to preparation. The tank has to be a perfectly spotless metal. On the other hand, POR tolerates some rust spots and impurities, penetrating them and sealing for eternity. Kreem would start peeling off in those areas at one point.
