1982 KZ1300 rescue and rebuild

The oil level window came out as follows: soaked in Kroil, tapped gently from the inside with a flat punch. The glass is very thick, but I wouldn't risk pressing on it. Just tapping the metal edges. The kit came out undamaged, and is very tight, and putting it back I will just use a very thin layer of liquid gasket.

Back when I started my restoration (I hate to say 20 years ago) chrome plating aluminum was not a common process to get done aftermarket and for the most part, significant failures were known to happen. I chose to clean up and polish the covers, clean them well to remove the polish remnants and then clear coat them with urethane. Still to this day they are very respectable. I will say though, chromed cover take it to the next level.goto love what you do.

Next I will post some retrospective photos which will lead to where I right now. These are not all photos I have taken, many of which were for the reference when the time to start putting things together would come. They just show the inside of the bike as I was stripping it down.
