Frame and Engine numbers was created by nigelanderson
I wonder if anyone can help me? I am thinking of buying a bike that has the following numbers: Frame KZT30B000159 and Engine KZT30A009573. On the surface it appears these are not matching numbers. But given the low B frame number, is it possible an A engine could have been installed at the factory, and therefore this is a matching numbers bike? Thanks in advance

I have no time to research this, but here my 3 cents and I think they don't have to match:

1982 motorcycle KZT30A
Frame: JKAKZAA1 1CA015191
Engine KZT30AE015762

It is my understanding that "Numbers Matching" does not apply to these old KZ's. The frame numbers and engine numbers have never been the same on any of the KZ's that I have owned or looked at. As a side note, I'm sure some of these bikes did not start with frame number ******0001, but may actually start with KZ******100. If that is correct the frame number you listed would be one of the first KZ1300s ever made.

i went through the same when i first got into my bike figuring i had a latter model engine! apparently not.
I got told by Kawasaki NZ that with the Z1300 Japan never matched up the frame/Eng numbers
they couldn't tell me why
possibly the US KZ was the same
