Hello BiltonJim, I'm halfway between Oxford and Swindon.

You're right about this forum, I've been reading up and the info on here is both very detailed and proven but still written in an entirely accessible and practical way, it's a real give-away of an enthusiastic bunch here!

I'll do some digging as you suggest on the pressure figures and see what's what.

McZee sadly everything you say sounds like it's going to come true : (

When I saw the state of the carb internals, my heart sank slightly.
When I tested the cylinders, my heart plummeted the rest of the way without hesitation : )

I do look forward to getting it running, my last 'sit-up' kwak was a Z1000A1, achingly pretty two-tone green / cream paint, surprisingly fun with only 75 (ish?) bhp, but the 90mph death-weave I'll never forget!
Spent the next 20 or so years on all the usual zx10s / ZZR11s etc., but middle-aged bad attitude has made me intolerant of leaning forward and getting arm-ache sub-100mph.

My other bike's a motorised armchair (better not say what!) and never had a six before (apart from cars of course, last 200K in BMW sixes) so can't wait for the same smoothness on two wheels.

Thanks LedKZ13 and really appreciate you experience of the test pressures.

That means potentially my right-hand bank is good to go (will get a spruce-up with the head off anyway) so I just need to diagnose why the left side has fallen off a cliff.
I just took delivery of a leak-off test kit, so that'll give me clues as to whether valves / head gasket etc., but all requires head work whichever way the diag's go.

Hi RChaloner from NZ
have a chopped up job myself courtesy of some American clown, looks as he was also trying to turn mine into a chopper of sorts, just really know words for it!
where in England may i ask do you live
i spent a few years in London (Enfield) then was based out of Birmingham for a year
great memories of the place
hope you get it all sorted, i have abandoned mine several times , but always end up coming back to it
i was lucky in that another member lives local, we get on well so have had a ride on his bike, gives perspective to all the work im doing
