These replacements for Goldwing are great finds! I actually have two old broken off knobs which were stuck in the bike. Since I already got two almost new like covers, anything else is just an alternative and a project for later days, because it would be nice to have them shiny instead of black like mine. Both broken off knobs on mine are chromed, the correct color for 1982 model.

Hi Stan, sorry I was on our Winterrally this weekend. Yes, that is the process. Material is put into a container with flakes and a compound and then it is moved. Guess similar to Isotropic Superfinish, I did not find any matching translation.
The surface is polished and at the same time the material is densified.
