OK, So I remember a post Stan G made on the front calipers dust covers. What did he or others do to keep the dust covers in place,
I'm at that point. the metal ring is inserted into the new seal it just won't stay seated.
thanks Greg

Why Have Four When You Can Have Six ?
Replied by strate6 on topic Front brake calipers
I have just completely restored my front calipers on my 1980 Z1300.
Everything went back together with no issue at all (as they always have on many I have rebuilt) and the Caliper Piston Dust Cover (Boot) went back into position no problem at all with a little Red Grease applied.
The part of your message I dont understand is when you say " the metal ring is inserted into the new seal it just won't stay seated."
Which METAL RING are you refering to which is "INTO THE SEAL " ?????????????

In my manual on page 126, diagram G17. "Seal Stop". This must be what's being referred to.

Sorry all got busy at home and didn't get back to this.
yes the ring came out with rubber dust seal, Had one helluva time figuring out what kept it in place
until i realized the seal( the dust seal) lip rides in a groove on the piston and the metal ring inserts in the
opposite end keeping it in contact with the caliper body. An exploded diagram is in the manual that I failed to see
(when all else fails read the direction dummy) Thanks guy!!!! Greg

I just did a complete disassembly, clean and reassembly of my 86 ZN1300 brakes last week too. There are no 'rings' related to the dust seals on mine - must be different brakes than the Z1300??
