I think it's a symptom of modern business practice. I emailed a company here in the UK about some parts, they didn't have the courtesy to reply either.

I think sometimes some small engineering outlets just don't understand IT and email. Then at the other end of the scale some larger operations are overwhelmed by email and cannot respond to it all.

One of the guys I work with goes straight to Twitter and Facebook to complain about a company because he believes he gets a much faster and more desirable response because it's so public and companies don't want to be seen in a bad light.
