I admire your perseverance / determination in keeping your 13.
It seems you have worked through most of the issues ! KUDOS !
Regarding your comment about RPM decreasing during the sync.
My sync procedure is quite different from that of the manual so I'll give this response the "short stroke" and get right to my suggestion. Make a very slight adjustment to your ignition timing. You should find , +/- several degrees, that the idle RPM will increase and noticeably smooth-out. You might find your relative readings will change and depending on the disparity between the 3 readings you may choose to do a final (sync) adjustment.
I'm interested in your results !

Since I got this bike running, I was back and forth on keeping or selling. Previous posts tell a story. Finding a pool of oil under it one day was the last straw before I posted it for sale. Since then, something clicked, and I channeled my anger into determination to fix every problem this bike had. That's the way I am sometimes. In my career, some people told me that I couldn't do something which angered me to succeed to spite them. I'll save the rest for Dr. Phil.
I hadn't checked the timing yet because of it's low mileage, but, yes, tomorrow I will look it up. I hope it doesn't involve removing the generator cover again since I just got it to seal.

Scotch, when you said 'timing', I assume you mean ignition timing. I'm looking in the FSM and am confused.
1. I have an '81 and the FSM '81 Supplement says that timing adjustments are not necessary. 2. Then it goes ahead and says to use a strobe light to check the timing, but even so, I'm not seeing how to make that adjustment if it is off.

Not yet. We're in a warm front with projected highs of 53 degrees F, so I'm taking her into town today or tomorrow, then probably change the oil soon after. One warm day a month during Winter is not unusual; when they come, I run errands with her if the roads and driveway are clear.
