I have an imported 1980 KZ1300, I want to know if its an A1 or A2.

Its Dark Green, so 79 A1, but Frame and Engine numbers are A2 just.

It says oil 4.6 L by filler cap, A1?

Carb needles have 1 ring, A1?

Float bowls have centre 10mm drain plug, A1.

Can engine and frame numbers be wrong and its an A1?

Look closely at the color. Maybe appears green, but should be luminescent starlight blue for A1 model.
4.6 L by oil filler cap is A1. That is clutch cover 14032-1012 used through engine serial no. 009426.
A2 engine serial numbers are 05801 through 12400.
The 1 ring jet needles are U.S.A. only beginning with the A2 model. An A1 should have 5 ring jet needles.
The float bowl center 10mm drain plug is A1. But, Mikuni used the available stock of 1979 float bowls until they were depleted before switching to the side type drain.
Hope this makes sense.

I can only refer to the UK/Euro Z1300 model, not the KZ.

Its very unlikely the engine and frame numbers are wrong........but they are just a reference.
There were A2 models manufactured still with the shallow sump and 4.6 litre clutch case fitted...............some had the deep sump and casing fitted as a modification under warranty if owners complained.
Many A2 also had the centre float bowl drain bolts too.

You probably have a "run out" or "end of the line" A1 model with some cross over A2 parts fitted.
If you send an email to Kawasaki UK Customer Services with your bikes engine and frame number, they will contact Japan for you to confirm the exact date of manufacturing for you..................but they will charge you £55 to put it in writing for you !!

To my knowledge your information on the numbers is accurate...............but not set in stone as the definite model or year as the A1 an A2 are both very similar.
I am pretty sure you have a "cross over" model which is not common, but not unheard of either......

Refer to this as a good reference..............if you have not already.

Easiest way I know how to differentiate- speedometer and horn cover (assuming you have it).

If you've got the 120 mph speedo? It's an A1 or was swapped from an A1. 80 mph? A2- later (the big speedo was a one-year-only.)

Does your horn cover go across both actual horns, or just cover the middle between them? Big horn cover is A2, small one is A1.
