Hello Martin,
Welcome aboard newbie!! I see you registered today. From one newbie to another, great bunch of guys here with lots of knowledge and experience.
One common thing I seemed to have noticed is that for whatever reason there's a lot of projects going on or completed where someone's bought a "basket case" and is restoring. Quite often the basket case has been sitting around for a number of years. So your challenges with your restoration will probably be things that have been dealt with before. Don't be afraid to post your questions because I can almost guarantee someone's already been through it.

Also, I would suggest that you visit the FAQ button at the top of the home page. KZQ has set up a searchable page there which has topics on all of the common issues and fixes that have been done to cure the issues. I've been through the list and like you I also have a basket case that's been sitting for 19 years that I'm working my way through and I've created a list of issues from the FAQ page of things I need to check before I've concluded my rebuild.

If your in need of parts and can't find it on EBay, post your needs in "Parts for Sale /Wanted". I've picked up a couple of parts from member "Michel". He's been great to deal with. There are others on the site with parts bikes and maybe just by asking they'll be willing to let you buy what you need.

Again, welcome aboard and best of luck with your project!!!

Martin, hi
I'm sure you'll find the forum a really useful place, the guys on here have helped me out so many times when trying to put right the odd gremlin with my Z13.
Re spares hunting: I am also in the UK (Lincoln) and on more than one ocassion been able to get hard to find part (including a mint starting motor for my 1979 A1) from DK Motorcycles up in Stoke / Newecastle under Lyme. They run a big classic operation as well as nerw bike sales, and often have popular classics being broken for spares - see the link re Z1300 www.dkmotorcycles.com/used-spares/?Search=z1300

Also I did see that Helmut at MCG www.z1300.de/ had some new Gaitors and Chrome Airbox covers, but they dont come cheap
Good luck with your search - Cheers Tim

Welcome to KZ1300.COM Martin!

One of the best things about this site is that we got members from all over the world. Haven't heard from the folks from OZ and SA much lately, probably cause they're riding while we're wrenching.

Welcome to the site.
