A local Motorcycle service shop rang me one day, seems he was cleaning out old stock and found a new old stock left (think it was the left one) hand switch for the 13, he knew I had a 13 as I got some other parts from him, he offered it to me for what it cost him, I snapped it up, so I had one new and one old on the other side, so I started a search using the part number, took a while but I found the other side one in Norway, bit more expensive, but had to have it so I got it, I also got a few off ebay, all from the states, but ones from there don't have the headlight switch and you really can't add the switch without a lot of stuffing around with the internals, so I guess all I can say is it is a quest, takes a while and if your bloody lucky you might find one, but you do get a lot of "pigs ears" before you find the "silk purse", have a few spare old ones if you need one, cheers Pete.

Hi,

Sounds like the bike you have originates from Europe. In the European models (Z1300) the fuel tank is bigger than on the US/Canada models (KZ1300) Therefore the throttle cables exit from the top of the handlebar switch body instead of the bottom. The best places to try to find the switches are eBaymotors.de or ebaymotors.uk You might try some breakers in the UK. The D&K in Stoke have some bits available. www.dkmotorcycles.com
The European switches are rare and you will possibly find some which require reconditioning.

Good luck, Lauri

I'd considered airbrushing them. There's local graphics shops that have vinyl cutters that can trim out words, letters, etc. I've though about getting the words cut, removing them, then using the backing as a stencil to airbrush the correct colors. The biggest issue would be a machine that could cut letters that small, and do it cleanly.

A project for the future, perhaps.
