Hi Guys
looking for some advice for a problem with the starter on my A1, when I press the starter button it continues to try to turn the motor even when released I am assuming something is sticking inside the housing,is there something obvious or is it worth trying some form of contact cleaner
thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Could be the switch. Could be the solenoid. An ohm meter will tell you if the switch is still making contact after it's been released. There's no harm in trying to clean up the contacts and the button itself, either way.

I would try the starter solenoid first just like on a car sometimes the contact inside the solenoid will stick and cause the starter to keep supplying power through to the starter
so find the solenoid I think its down on the side behind either side cover it will have thick battery cables on either side try to tap it with a hammer to break the connection while it is running on.

hope my response makes sense to you.

on cars/pickup trucks when this happened to me (I was able to stop the starter run on by hitting the side of the solenoid to jar the internal contacts apart)

Thanks for your help guys I will try and have a look in the morning, one more thing I took the bike out for the first time for a few weeks and there seems to be a loud whirring coming from the instrument cluster, I think its coming from the rev counter side any ideas
many thanks

Maybe try lubing the tach cable with some luberplate (white grease)
disconnect the tach cable and pull it out of its outer cable then squeeze some white grease into the cavity at the end of the cable and then push the and turn the inner cable back in add a bit more grease if needed.

hope this helps
